Vietnam Institute for Indian and Southwest Asian Studies is going to organize the international conference on the theme: “India - China strategic competition and its impacts on other countries”.
The conference is based on the consideration that India and China are two powerful emerging powers with increasing national synergy. Their position has been constantly enhanced in the international arena. In the 21st century, the competition between India and China in the regional and global arena has increased dramatically in both scope and intensity. Both India and China want to increase its presence and influence in the regions which has led to a strategic competition between the two countries. Although the India – China strategic competition may have brought about certain opportunities for other countries, it has also causes lots of challenges and difficulties for countries in securing their national interests and balance of power. This has hindered the process of regional and inter-regional integration as well as the regional security architecture building. It can be seen that India - China strategic competition will play an important role in shaping the regional scenario in the near future. In 2020, the strategic competition between India and China faces new turning points, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the clashes taken place in the border of the two countries since May 2020. These events have caused concern for both sides, prompting each country to accelerate the creation of its own international cooperation mechanism, even strategic alliance to contain each other's influence.
The international conference on the theme “India - China strategic competition and its impacts on other countries” aims at discussing the India- China strategic competition’s driving factors and its nature; the impacts of the competition on the regions, on countries, on international laws and institutions; prediction of future scenarios and policy implications for Vietnam to increase its positive effects, minimize its negative effects.
